Mission and Objectives

What is the TMC Forum?

The TMC Forum is a non-profit association of key players within the field of TMC and traffic information. The current members come from a variety of sectors, i.e. service providers, receiver manufacturers, car manufacturers, map database suppliers, public authorities, broadcasters and other organisations.

The TMC Forum mission is to be the focal point and authority for TMC across Europe, and to drive forward the market for TMC products and services.

The goals of the TMC Forum are to:

• Define a common strategy for future TMC developments
• Lead and co-ordinate enhancements to TMC features, services and products
• Support and co-ordinate the implementation of TMC services and products
• Define and operate quality procedures for TMC location tables, receivers and services.

Specific objectives include:

• Continue to grow membership and extend activities.
• Increase focus on practical business issues, to help suppliers and service providers grow the market for TMC products and services.
• Set up procedure for harmonised updating and release of country location tables.
• Define procedures for conformance approval of TMC receivers and services
• Develop specifications for extended TMC functions and features
• Promote international awareness campaign for industry and end-users.

Organisation:

The Forum Assembly is the ultimate decision-making body of the TMC Forum. The Management Group, representing each of seven membership sectors, is responsible for decisions on strategic and management issues. ERTICO as the TMC Forum Co-ordinator executes the day-to-day business of the Forum, including organisation of the Assembly and other meetings, membership services and development, and publicity and communications.

The main work of the TMC Forum is carried out in Business Groups, Task Forces, Working Groups and Release Teams. These are established as necessary and work until their task is complete. Any TMC Forum member may participate who wishes, is able and has the time to work.
